What does soil poisoning cost?
There’s no single number, and anyone who gives you one over the phone without asking about your site is guessing. Here’s what actually moves the price — so you can read any quote, including ours, properly.
The four things that determine your quote
1. Area to be treated
Soil poisoning is priced primarily on square meterage — the footprint of the building plus the trenches. This is the biggest single factor, and it’s why the first thing we ask for is your slab area. If you don’t know it, the foundation drawing tells us.
2. Pre-construction or post-construction
This is the factor that changes the price by an order of magnitude rather than a few percent. Treating open soil before the slab is cast is quick and needs no reinstatement. Treating the same building afterwards means drilling through concrete at intervals, injecting, and making good. Same protection, very different amount of work.
3. Site access and conditions
Tight urban sites, security estates with restricted contractor hours, steep or waterlogged ground, and sites where our team has to wait for other trades all add time. We would rather price this correctly up front than surprise you with standing time afterwards.
4. Distance and scheduling
We’re based in Hillcrest, so the Midlands is a short run for us. Work further out gets grouped into scheduled trips, which is cheaper for you than a dedicated callout. Booking a few days ahead usually gets you a better rate than a same-day job.
The single biggest saving available to you: if your slab hasn’t been cast, book pre-construction treatment now. It’s roughly 90% cheaper than protecting the same building once it’s standing. There’s no other decision on this job that moves the number that much.
How we quote
You get a firm figure in writing with the scope spelled out: the area being treated, the product being used, and the application rate. Not a single number with no detail behind it.
That matters for two reasons. It lets you compare quotes on the same basis, which you can’t do when one is a bare number. And it goes straight into your compliance file, which saves your architect or principal agent a follow-up conversation.
A word on very cheap quotes
Soil poisoning has a real material cost, because the termiticide is applied at a specified rate per square meter and that rate is not optional. A quote well below everyone else’s usually means one of three things: less product than the label requires, an unregistered operator, or unregistered product.
All three leave you with a certificate that’s worth nothing at the moment you need it to be worth something — which is typically five years later, when there’s termite damage and someone asks who treated the site. Ask any contractor for their Department of Agriculture registration number. A legitimate one will give it to you immediately.
